Project 52 - Week 3

Friday, January 22, 2010

When I decided to do this Project 52, I was thinking it would be a lot easier than posting one photo a day (Project 365).  However, I never took into consideration how hard it would be when I have several cool images of the same subject, to share just ONE!  Below is a lone tree that is only a few miles away from our house.  I ran into a local woman when I took this shot.  She was kind enough to ask me if I was lost, as I pulled onto her dead end road…hehe.  I explained that I was just there to photograph the tree in the field opposite their road.  She told me that this tree used to be her favorite as a little girl.  She also said that it used to be big and magnificent until one day it got struck by lightning and half of it died.  It still thrives though, and is still a really cool scene to take in.  I love when you come across trees that stand alone in a field.  I just think they are mesmerizing.

I’m also placing my Project 52 photos here if you ever want to look at them all at a glance later down the road.

I was just looking at this one again and think it would make a great book cover. (*hehe* Of course that’s where my mind would go.) Really, it’s perfect–the atmosphere, the mystery of the tree broken in half…and lots of space at the top for title and author name ;-)

I’m glad you all appreciated the story along with the photo. The tree is on Balch Road in Madison, AL.

This is so cool! I love trees all by themselves, too. This has a neat story with it. Where was it?

Hey, I recognize that tree! I’ve always liked it too, and I think I remember seeing it before it was struck by lightning. Cool pic. :-)

It’s a stunning picture, and I love the story that goes with it.
