Tennessee Aquarium

Friday, February 12, 2010

So it was my birthday and I got to pick anything I wanted to do…and I picked going to the Tennessee Aquarium.  Yes, I turned thirty, not seven.  Although, I feel like I’m seven when it comes to aquariums.  When I was little I wanted to be a Marine Biologist (that went away when I was told I had to take care of them and figure out what was wrong with them instead of just swim with them all day). Needless to say, I’ve always LOVED, LOVED, LOVED anything underwater.  Not only did I love admiring all my underwater friends on this trip, but I tried to capture them with my camera too (much harder than I anticipated).  So, I hope you enjoy these as much as I do.

I could have went home with an otter and a penguin after this trip to the Tennessee Aquarium and been in heaven.

The one on the left is some crazy looking sea horse…

Oh, one of my favorites! How stinking cute are these guys? There are two, I just can’t tell them apart.  Talk about fast little things!  They make life look so much fun playing in the water, doing back flips, swimming upside down.  I bet it’s fun to be an otter!

Mr. Turtle.

He’s not so big, but sure looks like he’d love to eat me…

AGH! Check out the split tongue.  This dude freaked me out….I do have to say that he has pretty coloring though. hehe

On to the rain forest area and butterfly garden…

And now we’ve reached the penguins.  These guys were pretty funny.  They looked at us so intently, like we were the ones on display.  It’s a little strange holding eye contact with a penguin for so long.  I wonder what they were thinking.  Maybe something like “What is that huge black box that woman has pointed at me?” or “Ohhh….this one is taller than the last one that came though” Who knows! But they seemed just as entertained with humans as we were with them.

Aren’t they just darling?!?!

This guy was not so “cute”….and for the record when I was little, this was NOT one of the underwater friends I wanted to swim with.

And to end the trip, we were in the Living Jelly exhibit…loads of glowing jelly fish.  A lot cooler to look at from behind glass =)

You take such gorgeous pictures, even at indoor exhibits like this! I may have to get some prints of your penguin shots, since my sister is positively goofy about penguins, and you got such great pictures of them. My favorite creature at the Tennessee Aquarium is the Weedy Seadragon. Your first shot that you called a “crazy seahorse” is of one of the seadragons. I was so fascinated by them that I watched them swim around for 20 minutes straight.
