Project 52 - Week 27

Friday, July 9, 2010

The idea behind Project 52 was that I would seek out different and artistic shots each week to expand the type of photography I’m into.  To be honest, that really hasn’t happened a whole lot, I just pressured myself into a weekly assignment, which some weeks I don’t feel very inspired to do.  I do like the feeling that I should go somewhere out of the ordinary during the week - make a stop that would not usually be planned - but some weeks it just doesn’t happen.  I’m sure most people go through these phases where they need a little break from something they do often.  It’s not that I’ve forgotten about Project 52 posts, it’s just that lately I haven’t found the inspiration worthy of a weekly post.  So, out of pure guilt I made myself stop at the Botanical Gardens on the way home yesterday - which is not really a place out of the ordinary for me, although I haven’t been there in quite some time.  Of course the one day of the week they are open late and I’m determined to stop, it rains…which was not in the forecast…imagine that.  I may have looked like ‘that crazy lady’ as I basically did a drive-by of the perimeter of the parking lot stopping my car, putting on the flashers, and jumping out to dodge the rain drops to keep me and mainly, my Nikon as dry as possible.

I do admit, it felt good using my Nikon again.  I really wish it hadn’t been raining because I wanted to see if any of the day lilies were still in bloom and I could have spent quite a bit more time exploring…but then there was also the issue of the heat, recent rainfall, which adds to the humidity factor.  Getting back into the air conditioned car wasn’t so bad either. :)

Since this idea of the Project 52 is to get me out of my comfort zone of what I am used to shooting and processing, I decided that this post I would process the photos differently.  I’m not usually in the habit of producing black & white floral shots, so here is my attempt.  Let me know what you think.

Since I missed weeks 25 & 26, and we’re now at week 27 - here are the three shots I chose to represent the 3 weeks I’m behind :-)

I love black and white! I like the tone of the first photo more than the second two.

I love these!!! Especially the 2nd one, I think that the B&W really shows off the texture. Very pretty!

  5. Theresa says:

I could imagine these being taken in the old day… not sure if they had the equipment though that would sharpen the image and leave the backgound blurred? But other than that.. to be honest, I prefer the beautiful colors! : )
