Project 52 - Week 29

Today must have been “Learn to Fly” day around our house. After Casey and I returned from a morning walk, I was startled to see this little youngster amongst the tomato plants. We think he/she is a baby mockingbird because the mockingbirds were on dive bomb alert with Diesel today. He wasn’t concerned one bit with this little young birdy, but all day long he was getting harassed by what we think were the protective parent mockingbirds. The baby bird hung out in the tomato plants for a good half an hour. It was hot out, so I’m sure it was tuckered out. It was neat to see the young bird, but I hope it gets cuter as it ages. My first thought was a prehistoric like creature, but we did just watch Avatar recently, so the crazy flying bird image might still be ingrained in my head.

I think he’s a cutie:)
We had three identical to yours. The Mom made a nest in our plant, in the driveway, and layed three eggs this time (it’s the second time that she uses our plant as her maternity ward). I was with Hannah and Ryder and they were fascinated with the three little birds trying to fly. They crash landed a few times and the kids were very upset about that, but after a few falls, they got stronger and Mom and Dad came in to assist. We left then and when we returned, they were gone. Wish you could have been there with your camera!
Hahaha on Avatar! I loved that movie! - To think of the journey baby birds take when they first leave the nest! This one still has fuzz! Hope it made it! Nice catch! : )
So cute! Nice capture!
