Exploring Downtown
Friday, August 7, 2009
I went out Wednesday afternoon to scout some neat places for taking outdoor portrait sessions. My friend Sonia came along for the fun and we hit the streets of downtown Huntsville to explore a bit with a photographic eye. I got some great ideas for places to take future portrait sessions. It just felt good to get out and shoot with my new Nikon D90. I haven’t been shooting with it nearly enough! All of these shots were taken with my 50mm f/1.8 lens. It takes a bit to get used to prime lenses, as your feet are now your zoom, but I think this one is topping the list as my favorite lens.
If I had to pick favorites from the day, I think these two would be them. The photo on the right is of an Orange Trumpet covered wall of a building. I just think it’s so cool to see greenery climbing up the side of any building.
Waking down the sidewalk I noticed this one leaf coming out of the side of a tree. Naturally, I started walking towards it…and CLICK.
This is a shot of an old Twickenham Station train cart and one of the park flowers.
This is one of the spots I wanted to check out. I think this would make a perfect backdrop for some portrait sessions. I will be doing an Engagement Session soon, and I have a feeling you will be seeing more of the awesome huge red door! Isn’t it cool? I love the bright color combinations! This is the entrance to Early Works Children’s History Museum - the South’s largest hands-on history museum.
Walking around the side of the Early Works Museum, we headed for the fountains that I assume children are supposed to play in. It was the end of a work day and no children were at play. It was a really hot day, I was tempted to play around myself!–
I take that back, these were the children at play that we saw right next to the fountain…
Crape Myrtle is in full bloom all around Huntsville right now. The light was hitting this bunch in the middle of a dark alley.
We got a little alley exploring in, and ended up finding this neat walkway that goes between two buildings and is the entrance to the Heritage Club - a fine dining establishment for member’s only. The lanterns throughout the walkway added such charm!
I hope you enjoyed seeing some photos from the downtown area. Stay tuned for the next blog post to see what I’m up to.
Happy Friday! It’s almost the weekend ![]()
